The paper winning the Wolfgang Metzger Award 2007 explores the central mechanisms generating experience and consciousness. The award ceremony and the award winner’s lecture were part of the program of the 15th Scientific Convention of the GTA (May 24-27, 2007, Macerata / Italy).
The award lecture of Dr. van Leeuwen, titled "Towards an Interdisciplinary Science of Visual Gestalten" has been published in
Gestalt
Theory - An International Multidisciplinary Journal
.vol. 29(3), 213-222.
This award - presented by the international multidisciplinary Society
for Gestalt Theory and its Applications (GTA)- is named in honor of
our late honorary chairman Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Wolfgang
Metzger who was one of the most eminent exponents of the second generation
of the Berlin school of Gestalt theory.

To qualify for this award applicants had to submit a scientific paper (in German
or English language) which contributes to research or application on basis of
Gestalt theory in the natural sciences, the humanities, the social sciences,
or the economic sciences; e.g. the paper could deal with a subject from psychology,
medicine, architecture, or any other field of research or application based
on Gestalt theory.
